Nintendo caused a storm when it announced that it's next console (the "Wii") wouldn't be as powerful as Microsoft's Xbox 360 or Sony's Playstation 3. However all fear was removed when it was finally released and consumers flocked to the new console.
Nintendo re-invented the console and it's controllers to make it easy enough for non-computer users to use. It features a simple "TV Remote Control" type controlled called the "Wii-mote" which can be extended with a seperate "Nunchuk" controller to allow two handed control.
2009 brought an advanced add-on for the Wii-mote which improves the sensitivity and accuracy of the controller, the future nobody knows but we can be convinced that Nintendo will be focussing on fun, games for groups, ease of use and adding innovation at every step.
