DVD Video

Guides

DVD is by far and away the current generation's movie viewing technology

DVD provides excellent playback and sound for standard definition televisions but will likely be superceded by Blu-Ray.

It's unlikely DVD is going anywhere though, and it'll be around for years to come. Also, because most Blu-Ray players play DVD disks as well as Blu-Ray content it'll be around for a long time.

If you're buying a DVD player and you intend (or have) a High Definition television then we'd suggest you buy one which can upscale content to HD. A good example is the Playstation 3 console which will play Blu-ray and upscale DVDs for High Definition (HD) televisions.
